Faith Informed therapy

Faith informed Therapy

Christian Psychologist UK – Faith‑Informed Therapy and Specialist CBT

As a HCPC‑registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP‑accredited CBT Psychotherapist, I offer warm, evidence‑based psychological therapy for adults across the UK.

I also bring an understanding of Christian beliefs, values and language, creating a space where your faith is respected and you never need to explain the basics of what you believe.

A Safe, Understanding Space for Christians Seeking Therapy

Many Christians worry that a therapist might misunderstand their faith, challenge their beliefs or see their spirituality as part of the problem. Working with a Christian Clinical Psychologist means you can talk openly about your emotional life, your relationships, and your faith without feeling awkward or needing to translate your worldview.

Clients often tell me they feel relieved to work with someone who naturally understands prayer, grace, forgiveness and church culture - while still offering professional, evidence‑based psychological therapy grounded in well‑established, research‑supported approaches.

What this isn’t: My work is not Biblical Counselling or Spiritual Direction. Those approaches offer something valuable and quite different. If that’s what you’re looking for, you may want to explore organisations such as Biblical Counselling UK.

As a Clinical Psychologist who is also a Christian, I offer faith‑informed psychological therapy, grounded in evidence‑based practice and an understanding of the Christian context. I won’t be praying or reading the Bible in sessions and I won’t offer spiritual guidance. Instead, therapy focuses on your emotional wellbeing, relationships and mental health, within a space where your faith is understood and respected.

Faith‑Informed Psychological Therapy (Adults)

Therapy is tailored to your needs and grounded in compassion, collaboration and clinical expertise. You set the pace and you decide how faith fits into the work.

How therapy can help

People often come to therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Together we explore what’s happening, make sense of your experiences, and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

Common reasons Christians seek therapy include:

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Shame, guilt, or internal conflict
  • Burnout, stress, emotional exhaustion
  • Relationship patterns

Do I need to be a certain type of Christian?

Not at all. I work with people from all denominations and those who are questioning their faith. Therapy is a place of welcome, not judgement.

What is the difference between Christian Counselling and working with a Clinical Psychologist?

Christian counselling and clinical psychology both offer meaningful support, but they serve different purposes and involve different types of training.

Christian counsellors provide valuable, faith‑centred emotional support and pastoral care. Their training varies, and many people find their work deeply helpful. If you are specifically seeking Christian counselling, organisations such as ACC can help you find someone suitable.

Clinical Psychologists, by contrast, complete:

  • A psychology degree
  • A three‑year Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
  • Advanced training in assessment, formulation, and evidence‑based therapies
  • Specialist training in complex mental health presentations
  • Ongoing regulation through the HCPC, enhanced DBS checks and Continuing Professional Development

In addition, a BABCP accredited Psychotherapist completes:

  • Advanced training in CBT approaches
  • Ongoing regulation, supervision and training requirements

Working with a Christian Clinical Psychologist and accredited CBT Psychotherapist means you receive:

  • Specialist psychological expertise
  • A faith‑informed understanding of your worldview
  • Safe, regulated, evidence‑based therapy
  • Support that honours your values

Fees reflect doctoral‑level training, years of experience and the specialist nature of psychological therapy.

Therapeutic Approaches offered

I draw from a range of evidence‑based approaches, including:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • Trauma‑focused CBT
  • EMDR
  • ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)
  • CFT (Compassion‑Focused Therapy)
  • Integrative therapy

Therapy is always tailored to your needs, your goals, and your pace.
