Dr Emma - a Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapist

Dr Emma Ellis
Hello, I’m Emma - a Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapist based in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
I’ve spent over 30 years working in NHS mental health services, and this experience allows me to offer a flexible, thoughtful approach to therapy. I draw on a range of evidence‑based psychological models and shape our work around what feels most helpful and manageable for you.
I work with adults of all ages, including young adults and older people.
Who I Help
Many people come to see me for individual therapy because painful or confusing past experiences are still affecting how they feel today.
You might be managing work, family life, and responsibilities, while quietly struggling with:
- The lasting impact of relational trauma, including childhood abuse, neglect, or emotionally unsafe early relationships
- Post-traumatic stress including difficulties with identity, self-worth, and emotional regulation
- Stress, burnout, or compassion fatigue, particularly if you work in healthcare, education, or other caring professions
- Anxiety, low mood, persistent shame, or harsh self-criticism
- Emotional distress where it feels important to work with a therapist who understands and shares your Christian faith
You might be wondering whether your situation is “serious enough” for therapy. If it matters to you, it matters. Therapy can be a space to understand yourself more, feel more like yourself again and find steadier ground.
Alongside therapy, I also offer specialist Clinical Supervision for mental health professionals, who want a reflective and supportive space to think about their work .
How I Work
If you’re looking for a calm, compassionate space where you can feel truly heard and understood, you’re very welcome here. I’m not easily shocked, and I aim to create a safe environment where you can explore whatever you’re going through at your own pace.
I take time to listen carefully to what has brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and what feels manageable right now. Therapy is always shaped around your pace, your preferences, and your goals.
I’m trained in a range of NHS recommended therapies, including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- EMDR and other trauma‑focused therapies
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Attachment‑informed approaches

A little more about me
My own life experiences help me offer a warm, steady, and understanding presence in therapy. I’ve been a single parent and part of a blended family and I know first‑hand some of the complexities, pressures, and joys that can come with that.
I’m a Christian and have been part of different church communities over the years, so I understand how important faith can be in making sense of life’s challenges.
My time as a school governor has given me insight into the realities of the education system, including the pressures faced by teachers, support staff and families.
If your Christian faith is an important part of your life, you won’t need to explain foundational Christian beliefs. We can draw on your faith in ways that feel supportive and natural for you. If not, that’s absolutely fine, our work will always be guided by what feels right for you.

Professional Standards
I take professional standards seriously and work in line with the ethical, clinical, and safeguarding requirements expected of a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP‑accredited CBT therapist. This means you can expect safe, evidence‑based, and accountable practice at every stage of our work together.
